JNU's Gift to Students: A Library That Will Stay Open 24x7

Students wishing to spend more time reading and researching in JawaharLal Nehru University (JNU) will now be able to do so at their own ease. Acting on a long-standing demand of students, the central
library at JNU will now be operational round the clock.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sudhir K Sopory, made the announcement while inaugurating the newly renovated reading hall at the central library. The reading hall facility will, henceforth, be available round the clock from February 3.

The newly renovated reading hall has a seating capacity of 128 students. "The library is one of those places where students come, interact and collaborate with one another.

The extension of library hours will benefit students access more information and will promote the use of the library's vast collection," R C Gaur, chief librarian, said.

The central library has a diverse collection of more than five lakh volumes and subscribes to more than 50 online databases. Besides, it has a rich collection of more than 1 lakh e-books, spanning different
disciplines.

"It is a great move. Making the library accessible round the clock makes things that much more easier for the students. I look forward to making the most of this new convenience," Arpita Paul, a student at
the university, said.

The entry to the library reading hall during all hours of opening shall be by an access control system. Registered students wanting to use the facility would be required to bring their ID-cards to ensure
that the facility is used by JNU students only.
