NEW DELHI: The first seat on DTC buses will now be reserved for disabled or blind passengers. On Wednesday, transport minister Gopal Rai chaired a public hearing at the regional transport office in Burari. After the hearing, Rai announced a slew of measures to "upgrade" the functioning of the RTO there.
The minister directed the transport department to ensure that the first seat on DTC buses is reserved for disabled or blind persons. He directed the department to upload details of parking space pertaining to existing autos and taxis in the capital on its website. This would help drivers know about parking space that has been reserved for them and they would not be ticketed by the Delhi Traffic Police.
School certificate of Class VIII is no longer mandatory for renewal of commercial licence. All forms related to transport authorities would be available also in Hindi. Besides, helpdesks at all RTOs will be set up along with drinking water facility. A new DTC Bus pass centre would be established at Burari soon.
Rai directed the transport department to enlist companies which can provide meters having inbuilt GPS costing Rs 8,000-9,000. The decision comes on the heels of a recent order by the transport department to make GPS mandatory for black and green taxis in Delhi as well. GPS is already mandatory for autos. Unions, however, have been complaining about the high price of GPS devices sold by the government approved panel.
